During the COVID-19 lockdown, many people find it hard to cope with isolation, anxiety, and stress. As Ottawa and Ontario residents start the second week of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, it is normal to feel anxious according to an Ottawa therapist. Sadly, some are experiencing these at an extreme level especially those who are not used to staying at home or have their normal routine disrupted.
Ontario implemented a province-wide lockdown on Boxing Day, closing all non-essential businesses to help limit the spread of COVID-19. It is considered normal to go through a variety of emotions during the lockdown, including feeling stressed and anxious.
Focus on things you can control
It is important to focus on what we can control because if we spend so much time looking at all the bad things that are happening, it becomes an overwhelming ordeal that not all can cope up with.
There are many things outside of your control, including how long the pandemic lasts, the number of people testing positive for COVID-19, and people’s behavior during the lockdown.
Try to focus on things you can control – how you respond to others, how often you go into public spaces, and the amount of “negative news” you watch.
Manage your anxiety
This is where self-care enters the picture, and it is an important factor during the lockdown. Many people get anxious as we feel that we are losing control over our lives. It is important to create a new normal for ourselves and our children while living through this pandemic.

Connect with others
Take advantage of technology and reach out to someone today. Instead of texting or emailing, reach out and call family, friends, and even co-workers you have not seen face-to-face in weeks or months.
