CPR was performed on victims of a rafting accident

Fact Checked

When engaging in any type of water activity, always consider safety at all times. In a recent rafting accident, two people died after a raft overturned on New Brunswick’s Miramichi River. According to RCMP Sgt. Brent Johnston, 8 friends were rafting down the river in Gray Rapids when it flipped.

Dangers in the water

Johnston added that 6 people were able to make it back to the shore on their own. A 29-year old woman from White Rapids was dragged out of the water by the first responders and CPR was administered. She was transported to a healthcare facility where she was later declared dead.

The body of a 55-year old man from White Rapids was also found shortly after. Foul play is not a potential contributing factor to the accident. According to Johnston, he does not believe that the current was flowing rapidly at the time of the incident, but an investigation is under way to figure out the root cause of the reason why the raft overturned.
