A concussion can occur at any age to both boys and girls. Generally, this is an injury to the brain where it ceases to function normally for a brief or permanent time.

It is generally brought about by trauma to the head such as a fall or in a vehicular accident. In addition, a concussion is considered dangerous among young children since they could not say what they feel. It is vital to monitor the child for any symptoms.

  • Confused or forgetful about recent events
  • Mood changes
  • Drowsiness
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Lastly, changes in the sleeping patterns

Management of a concussion

Generally, the only suggested treatment for a concussion is adequate rest. In addition, allow the brain to rest to recuperate and full recovery might take months or even a year, depending on the severity.

Take note that the brain should rest from both physical and mental activity. Furthermore, do not allow the child to use any devices with screens since these can overly stimulate and excite the brain.
