A man who jumped off a bridge was saved with the timely delivery of CPR. The five citizens who rescued the man received commendations from the Abbotsford Police Board. When a life is in danger, you should not hesitate to do what is right. With the prompt delivery of life-saving measures, it can greatly improve the chances of survival during emergencies.

Roger Williams, Jessie Garrison, Martin Hanle, Heather Hanle, and Ron Thomas were given credit for their selfless effort in attempting to save a life.

Rescue attempt

The first four of the group were in their vehicles when they saw a man park his vehicle in the middle of the bridge. He go out of his car and jumped off the bridge. It was a shocking scene and it was then that they took action to save the man.

The rescue involved using a boat to rescue the man. Once they were able to locate the man, they dragged him out of the water and immediately started CPR. When they reached the boat launch, they continued the life-saving measure until the arrival of the paramedics who took over. Sadly, the man passed away.

Although the quick-thinking and selfless actions of the five citizens in attempting to save the man’s life did not result in a good outcome, it gave the man a chance to survive. Taking action to save a life is better than doing nothing at all.

Importance of first aid training

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) can save a life. Prompt delivery of life-saving techniques improves the chances of survival during emergencies.
