Hockey player saved with the timely use of an AED

Fact Checked

A 13-year old boy is recovering in a healthcare facility after his heart ceases to beat during a hockey game and a defibrillator helped restore his pulse.

It was on Nov. 14 when Ali Khaleghi collapsed during a hockey game at Herbert H. Carnegie Centennial Centre in North York. He was only on the ice for a few minutes playing for the North York Rangers AAA Team and just blocked a shot a few seconds prior.

According to his sister Zhenya Selezen, we were lucky that the right people and equipment were on hand to help him.

AED saves lives

According to Jamieson, it was a relief when we got a low pulse. They felt for a pulse and performed CPR after discovering the boy did not have any vital signs. Someone else ran to obtain the automated external defibrillator (AED) of the arena and the trio delivered a shock to the player.

According to his family, Khaleghi is recovering in a healthcare facility and resumed breathing on his own.
